ANNUAL REPORT

The BCN pastors and Leadership Team created a vision for BCN for the next 10 years: We seek to endanger addiction, loneliness, and the causes of divorce in our community. We will accomplish this by purposefully engaging the 104,100 people in our community who have no religious identification through personal relationships. We will position and equip ourselves to be someone’s first church, not simply their next church. Our 10-year goal is to celebrate the baptism of 1,041 people and purposefully engage them in a process of spiritual maturity. While this starts at 1850 North Fairfield, our address will not define our footprint. We see ourselves as going wherever the hurting and disengaged are with the work of BCN expanding in the Greater Dayton Area. When this happens, lives will be transformed by Jesus, families will look to BCN as an ally, community leaders will trust us, and BCN will be a beacon of hope ready to impact the Greater Dayton Area. Together we decided that in order to accomplish this, we had to take the following steps:

  1. Create a more appealing space
  2. Develop leaders
  3. Engage with teens, young adults, and young families
  4. Establish and support recovery-based prevention ministries

Let’s take a look at how far we’ve come in a year and celebrate the wins as we keep moving forward. Thanks for scrolling through BCN’s 2017-2018 Annual Report. YOU are a big part of all of this!

THE FIRST STEP

Every significant journey starts with a single step. As BCN embarks on our 10-year journey culminating with the baptism of 1,041 individuals, we took The First Step together this past church year. The First Step is to intentionally create space that more effectively engages the hurting and disengaged in our community. In the 2017-2018 church year we updated BCN’s Children’s Ministries spaces and main lobby to be more culturally-appealing.

TRANSFORMING LIVES

We are committed to doing everything we can to give everyone an environment where questions can be discussed, opportunities to connect are plentiful, and faith can grow. At BCN we talk a lot about the Next Right Step. What that looks like differs for everyone so we offer several next steps.

BCN LIVESTREAM

The BCN Livestream has continued to grow and impact many lives outside our walls. While the original intent was to create an opportunity for members and those vacationing to stay connected through the livestream, it has grown into much more of a community and even a church home for some. We have seen viewers regularly check-in from our own backyard in Beavercreek, to all over the country and the world.

A regular viewer from a small town in Michigan came to visit and told us: “Even though I am not physically here on Sundays; I am still here with you all during worship.”

The Livestream has also become a great witnessing tool for members to share on social media or show to friends and co-workers as a way to invite them to join our church community.

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

2018 saw BCN’s first chance to host Tim Tebow’s, Night to Shine, an unforgettable evening for those with special needs. BCN welcomed over 250 guests, 400 family members, and 320 volunteers which culminated in an incredible evening, one people won’t soon forget. This massive undertaking could not have been accomplished without massive support from the church and surrounding community. Our goal was to Be Hope to a community that is often overlooked and undervalued. Our 250+ guests were all crowned kings and queens of the night. Out of that evening, we have had a guest family member be baptized, and multiple families attend BCN services. BCN is proud to announce we have been selected as a host church on February 8, 2019!!

BE HOPE TO A HURTING WORLD

Much of ministry takes place to those outside the walls of BCN. Here are few of those events that impact our community.

We put the FUN in HalloFUNaweenie

1,100 people filled the BCN campus for one of our largest outreach events!

We had approximately 1,100 people laughing, having fun, and being in community as they experienced all the excitement of Hallofunaweenie on October 29, 2017. We had 45 trunk displays and almost 2,000 bags of candy donated. Our goal for this outreach event was to continue to show our community that there is a safe space place to take your children when trick or treating. Our volunteers showed up in full force, making the event a true success!

Things Heat Up Every Winter

200 kids hit the hardwood for instruction, fun, and friendly competition!

This year (January—February) we had 200 children take to the hardwood during our 8-week Kids Basketball & Cheerleading league. The goal of basketball is to teach the fundamentals of team sports while learning about one key theme throughout the year. This year’s theme was commitment! Our volunteers showed up every week to referee, keep time, or serve food in the café and we are so thankful for them!!

Sharing Hope

This year The Egg Hunt was hosted at our main campus. We had 20,000 candy filled eggs, 9,000 donut holes, and the coolest DJ this side of Beavercreek. The highlight of this year’s Egg Hunt were the incredible volunteers who stuffed thousands of eggs, recruited community sponsors, and created an awesome experience for families of all ages!

Reset

The Opportunity To Reset

We had a great turnout for our first ever Worship Night on Friday April 20, 2018. The goal of this amazing night was to intentionally chose to set aside time in life’s hectic chaos, and to dedicate our time, energy, hearts, and minds to the purpose of worshiping God.  A passionate leadership team comprised of staff and volunteers planned a comprehensive and interactive narrative for the entire evening. Reset: Worship Night was choreographed to provide different contexts of worship based on life stages. Our goal was to exemplify that worship is relevant to every time of our lives. Thanks to some great promotion by VJ, James, Tony, and Matt, the event exceeded our expectations. Such enthusiasm!

Our goal was to create in people a personal desire for worship. The result is that people are already asking when the next worship night will be held. That is a huge win!

NEXTGEN

MINISTRY

NEXTGEN MINISTRY

Families are important to us! One component of our 10 year vision is to engage the most statistically disengaged group (Young Adults & Young Families) through a deliberate approach of creating environments and empowering leaders! As such we are taking a new approach with NextGen Ministries. Our goal is to better connect and equip the next generation in their faith. In most churches, the Youth and Children’s Ministries operate separately, with very little to no common thread. As a kid moves from one area to the next, the learning syles and techniques are varied and completely dependent on the leader of that time. The result? Kids and students aren’t making formative relationships with each other, connecting with adult leaders, and may not know how to take their next step of faith.

But we believe the church is bigger than that, and we want to do better.

Next Gen Ministry utilizes a team of people who will collectively oversee all the environments from birth to young adult to enable us to do ministry at every phase with the future in mind, and ensure consistent connections. It’s not just a team of 4 people. The NextGen staff (Kiesha Plaskett, James Mummert, Ty Walls, and Haley Conrad) will rotate in kids and youth classes, small groups, and events in order to better partner with our small group leaders and build relationships that make the greatest impact.

All of this is designed with a focus on better equipping families to partner with the church in the spiritual development of their children and to involve the next generation, not just in the activities of the church, but in the mission of the church.

Feed-The-Creek

FEED THE CREEK

One of the most important obstacles hindering a child’s learning process is hunger. Chronic hunger can prevent students from making the most of a formal education, no matter how hard they try to ignore its effects. The sad truth is that hunger can have physical and psychological effects on young people that make learning substantially difficult. Together as individuals, City Council, Churches, Clubs, Business and organizations working as one we will make a difference. Feed the Creek is committed to providing food on the weekends for children in order to reduce childhood hunger and promote healthier bodies, minds, relationships, and grades.

In 2017, our 55 Feed the Creek volunteers served more than 350 Beavercreek City School students with 13,209 weekend food bags. In addition to weekends during the school year, Feed the Creek provided 210 holiday food boxes to families in need.

ALPHA COMMUNITY CHURCH

Alpha Community Church launched Weekends at Alpha on Easter weekend (March 31 & April 1, 2018). With interest and attendance growing, Pastor Sheila and her team incorporated Sunday gatherings at 10am along with the Saturday gatherings at 5:30pm. Kids ministries are offered during both gathering times. It’s been amazing to see new faces who could not attend Saturdays.

Alpha Kids is growing, too! With our two gatherings on the weekends, we are seeing more kids, which is exciting. To expand the children’s space, we headed outdoors and asked for donations to fund a playground. Our goal was $1,800 yet, with our amazing congregation and community, we received $16,815! Groundbreaking for the playground will begin in August 2018.

BCLC

BEAVERCREEK CHRISTIAN LEARNING CENTER (BCLC)

On June 18, 2018, we welcomed Amy Frasure as the new Director of BCLC.  Amy grew up in Beavercreek and attended Mount Vernon Nazarene University, majoring in Early Childhood Education before transferring to Wright State University to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts, majoring in Social Science Education. Amy and her husband, Jared, have two kids, Peyton (age 6) and Tristan (age 4).  She previously worked at BCLC as an afternoon preschool teacher while attending Wright State University. She loved teaching and upon moving to Florida in 2014, she was hired as the Assistant Director for Childcare Network, and, eventually became the Director. Within two years, Beavercreek beckoned the Frasure family back and we are so pleased to have her as the Director of BCLC.

BRIDGE CAFE

Bridge Cafe had an exciting year at Wright State.  We continued to be an inclusive space where students could gather, build friendships, and connect with our staff.  Free Wiener Wednesday on Tuesday continues to be a success at the cafe because of the efforts of our awesome volunteer team from BCN.  One exciting introduction at Bridge Cafe this past year was the piloting of an acoustic worship night at the cafe, and we anticipate more of these in the upcoming year.  In the upcoming year our hope is that we can continue to grow sales while we intentionally find ways to cultivate conversations about faith and build relationships with Wright State students.

New Friends!

“I had been searching for a church that I felt at home since we moved here 4 years ago. Other churches were ok, but I never fully felt connected and at ease there. From the moment I stepped into this church I felt at ease, at home, and like I was supposed to be there. I am so happy that we have found BCN. My kids enjoy it, and each service I’ve been to has spoken to me personally.”

Michele Hurst

“As a single parent, I want to let others know that Beavercreek Nazarene has a place for you! I have never felt such an intense sense of community as I do here. This isn’t just a church, it is a very large family. They say it takes a village to raise children…You just found your village!”

Beth Taylor

“This is just the most feel good church – whenever I go the message is spot on with my situation – people are great. Thanks!”

Wendy Carey

“When I initially moved to Beavercreek, I attended another church. However, my kids started doing so many different activities at BCN, and enjoyed it there so much, that we started attending. We have found connections with so many different people here, and my kids and I always feel at home. I grew up in a very small church, so I was unsure of how I would feel in such a large community. But I always feel welcome, and there are always places to easily and comfortably plug yourself, your children, or your whole family in.”

Laura Engle

“Visited this congregation on different occasions & I’ve always left better than I had come!”

Sandra Kay

“I love the atmosphere at BCN, and I learn something from the sermon every Sunday. Plus the music is awesome. God is good!”

Alice Marie Adams

“We just finished up our 2nd Sunday in a row now at Beavercreek Nazarene and absolutely love it. The way the service is approached and how they seem to speak to me just makes me feel even more welcome than all the wonderful people who have welcomed us as well. Will continue going and suggest others give this church a chance.”
