The First Step
SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE

Every significant journey starts with a single step. BCN is embarking on a 10-year journey together to transform our community. We believe that a relationship with Jesus is the source of hope for our lives, and it bothers us that 104,100 people in our county are not connected to a faith community. We want to change lives and God has placed us here at this time, in this place, to do just that! We want to be someone’s first church, not simply their next church. The First Step is part of a much larger vision to intentionally reach 1% of our county who are not engaged in a church. Your neighbors. Your coworkers. The families at your children’s schools. Through each of the steps in this journey, BCN will purposely touch lives in significant ways through tangible means. How will we do this? We believe God has called us to engage in these 4 initiatives:
Develop
We will involve our people in areas of ministry and develop leaders through an intentional apprenticeship model, with each existing leader seeking to multiply themselves.
Support
We will establish support/recovery-based and prevention ministries to address the current and future needs of the hurting and disengaged in our community.
Engage
17% of the American population is between the ages of 18-29, but only 10% of churches are filled with that same group. This is a gap that we are not okay with. We will purposefully engage students, young adults, and young families and establish connections by creating environments to engage this group.
Create
We will purposefully create spaces that more effectively engage the hurting and disengaged in our community. This involves updating our current space and expanding to one new campus in the next 5 years. The First Step we’ll take together is to update BCN’s Children’s Ministries spaces and main lobby to be more culturally-appealing.

3 months for the Kids Gym and 3 months for the foyer. Around 6 months total.
We are looking at starting the renovation in the Kids Gym in January, 2018
This is our first initiative in a 10 year vision that seeks to transform our community by connecting those who are disconnected from God into a relationship with Jesus. We believe a broken relationship with our Heavenly Father is the source of our problems so we seek to be someone’s “first church” and not simply their “next church”, and to lead them into a process of spiritual maturity with the goal of baptizing 1,041 (1% of those disconnected from Jesus in our county) in the next 10 years.
The first step in this vision is to renovate our children’s environments and our foyer to be a place where people will feel welcome, our ministry will feel current, and people will have a better opportunity to make connections.
Yes, there are 4 key things we seek to do in the next 3-5 years that we believe will make the greatest impact in connecting people to a relationship with Jesus. We will create more appealing space for those who are coming in by updating our current ministry environments and planting one new campus. We will develop leaders to help guide the movement by engaging 60% of our attendance in an area of ministry and developing people through an intentional apprenticeship model. We will engage with teens, young adults, and young families to ensure that we are not absent from the lives of the group that is commonly absent from churches today. We will establish and support recovery-based & prevention-based ministries to bring hope & community to the hurting and disengaged.
We believe all 4 initiatives (Develop, Engage, Support, Create) are extremely important. We chose to lead off with the renovation because we believe this will make the biggest impact to the long-term success of BCN’s vision and create momentum for Step Two. Which initiative will be Step Two will be driven by need and impact and we will have those conversations to successfully carry out all 4 initiatives.
